Opportunity
The goal of this piece was to contribute a meaningful, yet playful piece to Portland’s vibrant street art scene, specifically for the Portland Street Art Alliance’s “Ladies Up” wall—a rotating wrap dedicated to showcasing diverse, female-identifying artists.
Approach
Drawing inspiration from traditional tarot cards, this piece combines symbolism and whimsy to reflect the dual nature of creativity— both intentional and experimental. The design integrates thoughtful references, like the fig symbolizing Sylvia Plath’s Bell Jar, alongside playful elements like a hot dog, for not particular purpose at all. Executed at 20" x 11" using acrylic paints with aerosol accents. I thoroughly enjoyed working hard in the hot summer sun and plunging in the river afterwards!
Result
This piece's playful yet thoughtful tone helped invigorate the space, reinforcing the role of street art as a place for dialogue and creative expression. This mural challenges solemnity while maintaining serious, intricate intention.
